Two Minute Video

This is a video introducing people to what our school has to offer. It ends with information about our school rules: Bee Safe, Respectful and Responsible. It did not work out as great as I had planned, but nothing ever does! :0) Make sure your sound is turned up as my students all of the sudden became soft spoken.

Introduction

My name is Shelley Ragland and I am a sixth grade teacher at Ashland Park-Robbins Elementary School in Omaha, Nebraska. This is my 14th year teaching at this school. I have been married for 19 years (later this month) and have two wonderful boys, Jacob (14) and Cole (11). They keep me extremely busy. I am a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a graduate of Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.

I have had a multitude of experiences with technology, but the best experiences have come from the school building that I teach. Our principal is big on providing whatever tools are necessary to make our jobs more efficient and to provide a better learning environment for our students. At school I am a Mac person, but at home I am a PC person. I cannot really determine which I like better because they both really irritate me at times. However, I cannot imagine my life without them. Just the thought of doing report cards by hand gives me a stomach ache! In my classroom I have a Promethean ActivBoard which I incorporate into all of my lessons weekly. I create powerpoints and flip charts to go along with the curriculum that I teach. We have recently been given the ActivExpressions to go along with our ActivBoards. The students love doing assignments and activities with these and it excites them about learning. It makes my job more fun, as well. Currently at home I am using Microsoft Office 2007.

I was inspired to begin this program because many of the teachers I work with have completed the program through Peru. With my busy life, I needed a program that could be worked around what was going on at home and work. This seemed like the perfect fit. However, the main reason that I wanted to pursue my master's degree was to help improve the lives of my family. Things have been a real struggle for the past several years and I wanted to do whatever I could do to help improve things at home. I hope to take what I learn in each of the classes through Peru and inspire the students that come into my classroom.
